Zoom Facilitator Guide: Chat & File Share
print icon

Facilitator and participants have the option to leverage the Chat functionality to communicate as a group or to communicate privately with one another.

Click on the Chat icon and toggle the drop down menu to "Everyone" to chat with the entire group of attendees, or select a participant's name from the drop down menu to chat directly with that individual.

TIP: When enabled, files can be sent via the chat feature, such as a PDF of the Workbook. This should be done during the Informal Opening and will ensure that participants have access to a digital copy and the ability to print if they have a home printer. First, open the Chat (bottom right menu bar) and click File. Browse to the saved PDF of the Workbook from your desktop. (See image below).

Note: Sharing a document via chat is problematic via Mac/iOS. If the participant cannot receive the document via chat, instruct them to take a photo or screenshot of the slide as an alternative.

TIP: Before starting a chat activity, open and expand the chat window on your screen so it is easy to read. Please note that the Chat box freezes when you leverage the Annotation feature. Therefore if you are using the Annotate feature while participants are chatting, you will not be able to use the scroll bar in the Chat window to see messages until you end annotation.
