An Authenticator has six settings for customization.

Setting Maximum Attempts

Enter a numeric value into the Maximum Authentication Attempts text box to set the number of times respondents can try to authenticate before they skip over the authenticated section of the survey.

Customizing Authenticator Text

The next three options are used to customize the text displayed by an Authenticator.

Note: Any custom messages you create are stored in the General category of your Messages Library.

The three messages to customize are:

  • Authentication Prompt Text—The text respondents see when prompted to authenticate.
  • Authentication Error Text—The text respondents see if they fail to authenticate.
  • Too Many Failures Error Test—The text respondents see if they reach the maximum number of allowed failures and are directed out of the Authenticator.

Allowing Respondents to Retake

By default, if respondents successfully authenticate and complete the survey, they cannot take the survey again. If they try to authenticate a second time with the same credential, they cannot proceed. However, if you want respondents to take the survey multiple times, you can enable the Allow authenticating respondents to retake authenticated section option.

Letting Respondents Save Progress

The Reload any previously saved progress upon authentication option allows respondents to pick up where they left off if they have not submitted the survey. When they log in with the same credentials, previous progress is saved, and they are taken to the point where they stopped.

When this option is enabled, disable the Save and Continue in your Survey options so the two features don’t interfere with each other.
