**IMPORTANT UPDATE FALL 2024**
The following Sales Order Items - Workshop Delivery [COMM], Design Services [COMM], and Real Deal Coaching [COMM] - automatically default to a Parent Project upon creation.
When any of these Items has a Quantity of 1 on the Sales Order, the Parent Project process is still applied, resulting in the creation of a single Child Project with a Quantity Consumed of 1.
This article will walk through creating a Child Project in NetSuite.

Helpful Tip: Before beginning the process, ensure you have the Parent Project NS project number.
- In NetSuite, navigate to the Project Templates page. Instructions for accessing the Project templates page & creating a shortcut can be found here - (instructions for finding page in NS & how to shortcut)
- Click on the Project Template you wish to create. Project templates are organized based on delivery days (1D, 1.5D, 2D, etc.).
- The selected Project template will load on the page. Click the "Create Project" button located at the top & bottom left of the page.
- A pop-up window will appear:
- In the ‘Select Project Name’ field: Enter the Workshop name as you would set it up prior to resourcing. This can be edited from the project as needed.
- For ILT: Date_Content/Program Type_Workshop Duration_Delivery Location
- Example: April 9-11 2024_Sprint Selling_3D_Chicago, IL
- For vILT: Date_Content/Program Type_Workshop Duration_Delivery Times w/ Timezone for vILT
- Example: April 9, 10, 16, 17, 2024_Sprint Dialogues_4x4hr_9-1pm CET
- If you need to create multiple projects at once (ie - for a rollout), use a more generic project name to readily identify them (e.g., "Emerson Rollout Project") and then utilize the "All Projects All Statuses" search on the Client dashboard to bulk edit the project details (Instructions on how to bulk edit)
- For ILT: Date_Content/Program Type_Workshop Duration_Delivery Location
- In the ‘Customer’ field: Enter the project number of the Parent project. This will ensure the child project being created is connected to the Parent project.
- Click "Create project"
- In the ‘Select Project Name’ field: Enter the Workshop name as you would set it up prior to resourcing. This can be edited from the project as needed.
NetSuite will navigate to the new Child Project page. A few backend steps/processes are being built, which should take only 15-20 seconds. There will be a yellow alert at the top of the new child project page notifying you of this delay. You can refresh the entire browser page or click the Reload link within the notification.
After the refresh, you will see the newly created Child Project.
Things to Know about Child Projects:
-
Order Information Section (also viewable on Parent projects):
-
Includes contract start/end dates and other general Sales Order (SO) information (similar to what you would typically see at the top of the SO in NetSuite).
-
There is also link back to the Parent Project in this section for easy access.
-
Note: The Parent Quantity, Allocated to Date & Available for Use fields will not display on Child projects, this information is only available on Parent project.
-
Project Personnel Section: These Success Advisor, Program Manager and Engagement Coordinator sections are designed to automatically populate project team names from the Sales Order, reducing the number of fields needed to be manually filled in when setting up projects.
-
All newly created projects will now be available on your saved searches across the Netsuite platform.
-
Setting up a Child Project (prior to resourcing):
There are two new fields that need to be updated on projects when setting them up:
-
In the Primary Information section, Parent or Child dropdown box: Select "Child"
-
In the Project Details section, “Quantity Consumed” field: Add the number of delivery days or hours being consumed by this workshop.
-
Example – For a 3D Sprint Selling workshop, enter 3 in this section.
-
From here, you can fill in the remaining project information and follow the normal process to submit a resourcing request.
