Exploring Survey Options

The Survey Options menu has a set of measures for controlling access to your survey.

In this article:

  • Survey Protection Options
  • Inactive Survey Behavior

Survey Protection Options

The simplest way to protect your survey is to require a password. To set a password, select the Password Protection option in the Survey Options menu and enter the desired password. Respondents will have to enter that password when they first open the survey.

The HTTP Referer Verification restricts the web page that respondents must come from when entering your survey. For example, let’s say your survey is posted on your website in a Members-Only section. Select this option and paste in the link of the Members-Only page that includes the survey link. The survey will only be accessible for respondents who click the link from that web page. Links found on any other source will not work.

By default, surveys can be taken at any time as long as they are active. Selecting the Survey Expiration option allows you to specify an exact date and time range when respondents can begin your survey.

If respondents try to access your survey before or after the specified range, a default inactivity message appears explaining that the survey is currently unavailable.

Note: Survey expiration specifically affects a participant’s ability to start the survey. If the expiration date passes, those who are in the middle of a response will be allowed to continue taking their survey until the partial completion deadline passes, even if that deadline goes beyond the survey expiration date.

Inactive Survey Behavior

After an active survey has been closed, a default message appears to tell respondents who click on the link that the survey is inactive. You can change this message by selecting the Custom Inactive Survey message option.
